If you are one of the thousands of people trying to find answers, there’s a good chance you’re sitting in front of your screen brainstorming questions to ask Google, hoping a simple answer will miraculously appear.
As a complete and utter Newbie in 2008 – I remember ‘wondering’ if it was possible, and ‘what’ or ‘how’ all those ‘supposed’ internet entrepreneurs were doing.
I’d heard that some people were doing very well, but unfortunately had never met anybody in person who could verify the possibility; therefore I wasn’t all together convinced that somebody with my lack of knowledge, not to mention , tech savvy could actually make it happen.
Thankfully, due to my burning desire, I was determined to find out. I remember so clearly sitting before my computer one autumn evening with my fingers hovering above the keyboard feeling ‘hell bent’ to find a way to start a business online.
I feverishly clobbered phrases into Google: “how to start an online business” ..”start business online”..”how to start online business” (you get the picture)… just waiting for that perfect answer!
Results were scrolling fast and furious across my screen. Oh how easy it sounded!! After all, all I had to do was sign up for information and pay a fee, and BOOM! … my bank account would grow at the speed of sound! (Not!)
Thankfully, common sense prevailed and I wasn’t drawn into the ‘get rich quick’ schemes, and instead, I continued my research to discover the many real ways of using the internet as a powerful tool to create a comfortable living.
I was flabbergasted to find the number of viable options to choose from; MLM, Direct Sales, marketing physical products, e-books/info products, Adsense, EBay, etc. Not to mention the possibility of Freelancing, promoting specific talents such as Web/Graphic Design, Photography… and the list goes on.
It took a little sifting to decide between the many online business models, but at least I now knew the options…the only remaining question was “which online business was right for me?”
Since I’m not particularly technical or skilled in the way of design, etc, nor did I have a specific marketable hobby, I chose to promote a personal development business opportunity that felt right, aligned with my needs and passions and had many tools already in place.
Now of course, this was my choice, and may not be yours. What I’m hoping, however, is to get across to you in this post, that the option of starting an online business is available to anybody who decides to take action.
It does take some research in order to find something affordable, that is the right fit, and legitimate, but hopefully I’ve given you some ideas.
I would only recommend that if you choose the start a business online that is not something you created yourself, that you perform due diligence on the background of the company and not get bamboozled with the many false promises of fast cash.
Admittedly, once you have something to market there is still much to learn in order to publicize your venture… but it’s not rocket science.
You will have to work at it in order to get the ball rolling… and it can feel a little overwhelming at times, particularly in the beginning when trying to absorb new information and put new skills into practice.
What’s important to keep in mind however, is realizing that we all start in the same place and have to learn the necessary skill sets needed for marketing a business online.
The reality is however; learning how to start an online business and earn money from home is absolutely do-able as long as you actually do it and not talk yourself out of it. We all have the same opportunities and chances of success.
I truly hope that if you are stuck in the ‘how to start an online business’ or what is available that you don’t dismiss the possibility and will instead take the plunge and do something! In other words just start where you are and do what you can and things will begin to fall into place.
You will find that you are never alone; there are so many sources, courses and helpful individuals all over the web to provide you with incredible advice to help you along.
I sincerely hope I’ve encouraged you to realize the world is your oyster and you can gain experience as you go. It’s those who take action who see results.
If you have any questions, regardless of the opportunity or model you have in mind always feel free to ask for help or contact me. I would hate for years to go by and have you wished you had the courage to start an online business … but didn’t!
