Start a Business & Achieve Success Making Decisions NOT Resolutions!

by Jayne Kopp on January 4, 2012

start a business, starting a business, achieve success

If you’ve made a resolution to start a business in 2012 you might want to re-think it.

I’m not saying that starting a business is the issue, but in order to achieve success, which naturally is the idea behind it, you have to ‘make’ that happen based on making sound decisions and practicing ‘sticktoitism’.

“Resolutions” as many of us know are most often taken far too lightly these days.  Don’t know why to be honest; I think some people just feel good to state they’ve made one.  The problem is they often  fade to the back burner by the end of January and frankly it just wont do you a scrap of good as a new entrepreneur unless you’re really serious about it!

You see, I truly believe than ANYONE can achieve success in anything IF they TRULY want to.

Often people make resolutions that they really don’t want to make but they do anyway only to quit all together once they start to slide backwards.  The things is… we all know that letting a resolution dwindle is somehow forgivable and it’s doubtful that …. in lets say… “June”  our friends are going to say “hey… how’s that resolution going anyway?”

When it comes to starting a business, I think a sound commited decision needs to be made… on purpose, regardless of time of year, etc.  Oh I know January 1 is a great time to start but I do feel it needs to be taken more seriously as to me it’s something that will last for years to come.

The beauty is that we  live in a time where it has never been so easy and affordable, particularly with the access to the World Wide Web.  We can ‘decide’ to start a business at any moment in any day.  Look online and you will realize if you do some research how lucky we are  to  have such a plethora of opportunity for us to make some positive life changes… and we truly can claim our piece of that potential abundance as long as we are 100% committed.

I’m not meaning to imply the “success part” is easy.  Success in anything is always the same and takes dedication.

ALL successful entrepreneurs have worked hard and I don’t think you would ever find one of them who would say it was a walk in the park and success just occurred with no effort on their part.  (I know this is a blow for those who seem to think you can actually earn money doing nothing).

Admittedly and unfortunately, many people actually do think the internet is a free for all and it’s all because of a dishonest segment of internet marketers who promote  business ideas online and fluff things up to give the impression that the sky will open and money will fall from it the moment you join them… but the truth is… it’s not the truth.

You will of course then find people who hammer the point that it does take work and while stating this home truth is definitely admirable, you can’t let this put you off either as it really can be quite enjoyable work.

I believe than anything worth achieving will take work and to achieve success by starting a business is completely doable if you use a bit of common sense and take consistent action.  After all, we all have the power of choice to create change for the better so why not invest some serious effort into something that can serve you well for years to come?

It doesn’t matter ‘what’ you promote either; whether it’s a Multi Level Marketing opportunity, a Direct Sales Opp., or even if you have an offline business… the bottom line is you just need to get out there and ‘market’ on a consistent basis just the same as any other business.

In this day and age regardless of the route you choose, network marketing plays a very important part… and while I realize you might be thinking I’m talking solely about MLM Biz Opportunities…(because I used the term ‘Network Marketing”)…. I’m not.

What I am saying that even if you have an ‘offline’ business and want to gain exposure online, you will have to ‘network’ and you will have to ‘market’ to get in front of as many eyeballs as you can and “make a noise” (so to speak)  in order to get noticed so others know you exist and you are willing and able to provide your product or service.

Now before you start getting all excited and start shouting about your venture like “the great I am”… you don’t want to do that either.  You just want to let people know you are there, make a few friends and stay visible as an active part of your community.  (This really is my favourite part to be honest).

You could be marketing dog biscuits for all that matters and if you play your cards right, you will stay at the forefront of peoples minds and they will think of you when Fido needs a treat!

Lets face it,  if nobody knows you exist, it’s going to be pretty lonely in your neck of the woods isn’t it?  so really the concept is nothing but common sense.

If there’s one thing I know well from starting from ground zero is that getting started, taking action and making a solid decision to stick with it for the long haul in most cases will cause the Law of Compensation to kick in.

Naturally there are never any set in stone guarantees in anything in  but I can guarantee that if you don’t get on your horse and make a start….“thinking” about it won’t change a thing.

There are enough people online who provide awesome information and services to help you get started.  If you’re stuck it’s time to cowboy up, suck it up, ask for help if you need it and start moving forward with purpose. (You have to start somewhere).

After all, “if you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always gotten!”

(Tony Robbins).

If you’ve made a resolution to start a business this year, yet you’re over thinking it to death, make a decision to take action ASAP.  Hey, you never know, it just could be the best move you have ever made and even change your life.  Remember, you stand the same chances of achieving success as any of us who have gone before you.

If you need assistance, contact me now, get serious about success, and let’s get the show on the road.  We’ve got a whole year ahead of us to create some awesome life changes.

I have decided to start a business in 2012. I have begun to work at it daily. One of the aspects of this that has been most rewarding is the discipline I am exercising to work on my business every day. It makes me feel so good about myself again.

Hi Jayne,

Wow, very insightful! Unfortunately it is way to easy to start your own business these days. For the price of a meal you can be “in” sometimes. While this is a good thing for those who are serious but only have a limited budget to get started it’s also way too easy to quit for others who don’t lack the money but the commitment.

And commitment it takes. A great deal of commitment actually. Success does not come easy, but it is well worth the blood, sweat and tears.

Thanks for sharing this great post with us!

HI Ilka, lovely to see your smiling face! Yes, you do make a very good point. Some people do quit because they’ve got nothing to lose if they do. When things don’t cost in the way of money and time, it makes it easy to think “oh well”…

I do think however this separates the wheat from the chaff and the ones who are serious will go on to grow. It really is personal choice isn’t it.

At the end of the day those who are where they wanted to be are the ones who start and set the true intentions to succeed.

Funny how so many people complain though about their situation and never do a thing. Sad really.

Thanks so much for coming over to visit Ilka. I always enjoy seeing you.

I agree with you all the way. it’s unfortunate that many want to take their internet business as some stroll in the park. Building a business demands, as you put it, sticktoitism which many have thrown away from resolutions. It’s only the serious minded that can start and stick to it until it works out. Thanks for sharing this.

HI Chadrack, lovely to see you. I agree so many people think that getting going online will, as you say be a walk in the park… but… like ANY business it takes work and dedication to make it come to fruition.

YIP… sticktoitism is certainly a must to succeed.

Hi Jayne!
Resolutions are nothing without actions. It’s good to set some goals as it’ll help you ro see the ways to achieve them but you have to do some steps. Otherwise these are just dreams.

HI Eugene, you said it. “Dreams’ don’t work. We can dream all day long but if we don’t attach a deadline they are never reachable goals.

Thanks so much for stopping by

I agree Jayne, great post and a terrific topic.

I hate new year’s resolutions which is why I quit making them years ago. I also believe you have to be the kind of person who follows through with your commitments. I mean, if you are someone who has always been all talk and no action then trust me, you’ll never do what’s needed. But, if you are someone who is an action taker than this is something achievable for you.

Research though before you jump in because I didn’t and I had no idea what all was involved. The only thing that saved me what that I’m an action taker so I wasn’t going to let anything hold me back.

So make that decision, research more about which direction you want to go and take massive action. That is what will make this a fabulous year!

Thanks Jayne for sharing these tips with us. Happy New Year to you and I wish all the best for you in 2012 and beyond!

HI Adrienne, thanks for stopping by.

Yes ‘resolutions’ are soggy. I feel real success is based on strong decisions.

It is absolutely imperative that you are an action taker to make any sort of change because we all know that thinking about it or pretending won’t get us any further.

Thanks Adrienne for taking the time to stop by. Happy 2012 to you too and lets make this year ROCK!

Hi Jayne
Great post here, inspiring and full of wisdom. The power of decision is amazing and so few of us fail to truly utilize it. We never make firm decisions that we will do certain things and carry them out to fruition. So many people have asked me how I came to live the life I live and all I could say is that I decided to and accordingly, made decisions that kept me in line with that vision.

HI Kelli, so lovely to meet you. I’ve been behind…(can you tell?) sorry for taking so long to respond to you.

I congratulate you on making the right decisions to create a lifestyle you enjoy.

We all have to be serious about success otherwise… thinking and pretending to make goals doesn’t do a thing.

Best regards

Hey Jayne,
Great post here. A new year resolution can be just few words on paper if don’t truly decide to do it.
Search deep within, chose to manifest something that would really make you feel that heaven is in your life and go out there and do it everyday.
Change doesnt come right away..the daily decisions are the one that create real change. So, have the resolution in mind and improve the daily habits.

Thanks for sharing your tips:) Wish you a prosperous 2012!

All the best,
Radu

Hi RAdu, happy new year.

I truly believe the key is to go out every day and persist. As you say, making a resolution is over used these days. I think a great decision can be made any time of year and will only come to fruition if there’s a true desire to make it happen.

Thanks for coming over Radu. Lovely to see you.

Hi Jayne,

You make some excellent points! There is a lot to consider before starting a business and the best thing that we can do for ourselves is to dig deep and research, research, research! We can’t under research and we need to have a strong belief in what we are doing!

Happy new year Jayne!
You are right and I agree to that too. Our success rely on our own hand not with others. It’s up to us how to handle it.

Hi Jayne,

Excellent!

Decision separates dreamers from do’ers. You decide to, or not to. A choice. And the choice need not be made according to a calendar. You only have Now. The moment exists. Use it!

Thanks for sharing with us Jayne.
