Do you want to start your own business online… or have you been busy thinking “instead of doing”?
If you’re like a good handful of people I’ve talked to this week… you’re doomed from the get-go… unless of course you snap out of it and get cracking!
Why?
Because it seems you’re not as serious as you say you are.
Instead (it seems) you’d rather complain about the economy… or the fact you’re laid off. You’d rather spend the day on Farmville than improve your circumstances
You come up with every excuse in the book… rather than read a book that’d do you some good.
You talk yourself out of getting started because you can’t bear but to remind yourself ‘you know nothing about ‘internet stuff’…or that “you’re not techy”, or “you’re not a sales person”…. and… that “your friends and family think you’re nuts” for even considering it… and besides… you “can’t afford to spend much” to get started.
So instead, you surf the net (cause that’s easy right?). You fill in forms to get free reports. You read some of them… but most of them sit and never get opened.
Why? Because you tune out after the first thing you read that doesn’t feel comfy and ‘easy peasy’…. And that’s about as far as you go… until of course, you phone me… and recite the above. 😐
To be honest… It has a way of making my hair curl (can’t you tell?)… and I can’t help but think you’re getting exactly what you deserve.
I mean….Helloooow?
It’s my opinion that anyone who wants to start a business should get off their butt and get the show on the road and not worry about any of the ‘other stuff’. Getting started is the only thing you need to worry about right now.
Forget that you hear than only 3% succeed and 97% of businesses fail. So many people get hung up on those figures. I mean it might be a fact but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get your rear end in gear and join the 3% if that’s where you want to be and instead of soaking up the negativity, focus on the other side of the dotted line instead.
I guess though, that at the end of the day the choice is yours and nobody can force you out of your rut except you..
Still… the big questions remains… and that is: deep inside…are you serious about success or making changes…? Or do you just like the sound of your own voice?
If you are serious you’ll do what the rest of us do and get cracking! You’ll acknowledge that right now…you might not know anything about getting started (just like the rest of us when we started), BUT.. and it’s a big BUT…you’ll be ok with it… because you are committed to buckling down and learning a few skills that you’ll put into action and moving in the right direction! …..Right??
If life really sucks the say you say it does, isn’t this small commitment worth the effort? It’s really the choice between staying stuck or taking a step in the direction of change!
If you’re using the “I can’t afford it” excuse … wouldn’t you agree that perhaps it’s something you can’t afford NOT to do?? Particularly if, as you say there’s no work?
Although admittedly I am a proponent of investing in my business because I know I’ll get back more than I put in, I know many people have an aversion to spending a few dollars. To me the only two reasons for this is because they either should work on their belief system to overcome the fear or failure… or… they don’t want it badly enough.
If truth be told, I don’t think anyone ‘loves’ the sensation of pulling out their credit card BUT when you are making an investment into your knowledge or into something to move you forward… it’s always money well spent.
Now I’m not saying you have to spend much at all. The fact is, there are all sorts of solid low cost business opportunities on the internet. While some do require a larger investment than others… there are plenty that cost mere pennies per day that require a larger investment of time and effort than anything else.
For example, with the exception of perhaps of investing into a solid marketing course that can be picked up for less than a hundred bucks, I find affiliate marketing can be an awesome way to learn the ropes and it’s a business that can literally be run on about 40 cents per day. Seriously!
If you’re worried about what others think about your goals to start a business online… who cares? I mean seriously, if you’ve got a buddy or a family member who’s knocking you for spreading your wings, all you need to do is take one look at their situation. If they’re not living in a mansion on the hill and earning big bucks… and willing to show you how to do the same, then why on earth would you take their advice in the first place?
I know lack of knowledge can be stifling and make it difficult to ‘know’ how to proceed and even I have a couple of tasks I have yet to implement. The difference is, I will find the solution and do it… the question is will you?
You see, when I’m stuck, I ask for help or find the resources to get me though it and believe me… I’ve been stuck like glue on a number of occasions… but I’ll talk about that in another post.
The truth is however, the same opportunities are available for you too. You can always reach out… find a coach or mentor and/or do your own research to get your questions answered… but for heavens sake… at least make a start and get the ball rolling!
The deal is… anybody can succeed if they’re willing to shut up and actually DO something… and not talk themselves out of it before they get going.
I personally know many people who have been flat broke… ready to lose their home and just about everything in it… but because they had a deep desire, the just buckled down and DID something about it, instead of think of all the reasons they shouldn’t … eventually one thing lead to another and many of them are now making an income most only dream about.
Now, I will admit success does not always come overnight… but it will come a hell of a lot faster than it will if all you’re doing is sitting, thinking and making excuse… because as you might already know, that won’t do a blasted thing.
The best time to start a business online is right now. Period. With all the opportunities at our fingertips since the internet came into our lives… you’re just starting a gift horse in the mouth if you don’t partake in the blessing.
If you really want to create changes and need a hand getting started, contact me and lets yet the show on the road…. But only if you’re serious
In case you haven’t noticed I’m definitely blowing steam today… and yes there have been a couple of folk who have caused me to talk with my inside voice a little louder than I normally might. (They’ll know who they are if they read this post… and I’m all good with that).
If you relate to anything I’ve said why not get cracking and at least make a start today?
Like my coach says… “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going”… (Darn, how I wish I could claim that as my own) J
I’m not saying in any of this that there are any ‘guarantees’ in life… there aren’t for any of us, but there is one thing for sure and that is if you don’t get off your fanny and do something about making tracks, you just might be playing Farmville for the rest of our your life.
If your inside voice is saying you are serious about success… and you just need a little lift to get you going… contact me at any time.
The worse thing you can do is waste time… because that’s the one thing you can’t get back… and I’ll give you some examples in my next post on this.
Just remember, we all start a business with the same set of fears, questions and hesitation, but it’s breaking through that barrier that causes things to flow… just do one thing, then move onto the next… but taking action and getting the show on the road is the only way you’ll ever see results.
Wishing you a wake up call and the best that life has to offer!

Hi Jayne,
It’s definitely important to do your “homework” before starting a business but it definitely needs to be followed up with action. It’s very draining to listen to someone who will not make a decision and will not take action. At some point you have to stop talking and start doing!
Stacy
Hi Jayne,
Appropriate read! I was just having a conversation with a cousin in Poland who wanted to start an internet business and keeps asking questions after questions (quite analytical). She wants to know everything before she starts.
While I was gentle on her as usual, I made her realize that she will not know everything from the outside, she needs to get inside to get a feel of it.
So many indulge in analysis paralysis and really need to get cracking like you said…lol
Thanks
Tosin
Hi Tosin, how true that so many indulge in analysis paralysis and end up talking themselves out of what might be the ‘one thing’ they needed to completely change life around.
I say… jump in … the waters great!
Jayne
Hey Jayne,
This is what I don’t understand… If people say they want to start a business and they call you for your input, are they really expecting this road to be easy? Are they really expecting it to cost hardly anything? Are they really expecting that there will be nothing to learn? It continues to surprise me because I’m not sure what these people really expect! This is a business for goodness sakes.
All the fear they have and all the questions they continue to throw at themselves are just excuses that are holding them back. If they really wanted to start a business they would heed your advice and jump right in. I would be pumped and excited to learn something new and be able to turn around and show my friends and family want I’ve accomplished. I mean seriously!
Great job Jayne in helping people know that if they want this bad enough then just do it. It’s only as hard as you make it. Trust me, we all started in the exact same place.
~Adrienne
HI Adrienne… I know, I know… it’s just too bizarre that people would actually go through the steps of calling, emailing, etc… but just can’t get going.
It’s also bizarre that people don’t get serious about success… and put in the work.
I often only guess they are either lazy… or plain daft.
I always looked at this as an exciting experience too. Just goes to show you there are a variety of humans… and we certainly do not see things the same way.
Thanks Adrienne for stopping by.
Jayne
Agree.. If your into starting a business you should prepare yourself in all aspects. Starting a business was never easy, but where there is a will there is a way. 🙂
I do believe you are right Brenda. I also think if you truly wish to make it happen… you can. You do have to start though. Solely thinking about it will not make it happen.
Jayne
Jayne,
You hit the nail on the head in saying:”It’s really the choice between staying stuck or taking a step in the direction of change!” We all get that choice! One of my all time favorite quotes from my friend in college(a bit on the dark humor side) was:”stick your hand out, if it comes back a bloody stump, it was a bad idea:)”
Great coach talk!
~Becca
LOL Becca… Thankfully I have not seen a bloody stump due to starting a business and don’t believe I shall! (here’s hoping!) 🙂
Jayne
This article is good to those who had a business online very useful for them..I know that when you are starting business there are some risk..
Life can be full of Risk Francine. You could get hit by a car crossing the road. I think if you use your brain and give it your best shot… at least you’ll know you tried!
Jayne
Spot on Jayne. And it applies to everything in life, not only starting a business online.
Make sure you are 100% committed to whatever it is you want to achieve. If less, maybe you should think twice about it;-)
Catarina, you are correct, it does apply to everything in life.
Thanks for stopping by.
Jayne
Hi Jayne,
I agree with you Jayne. You either pull your own weight or you don’t. If you don’t you become a burden to others. Some people don’t mind being a burden, some do. The ones who pull their own weight have the satisfaction that others never have. Hope you calmed down before you went home to your husband. 🙂
Lou
LOL Lou. I was calm… I was just getting it off my chest!
I do believe we all have to pull our own weight… too many people have a feeling of entitlement and want everything to fall on their lap.
Thanks for stopping
Jayne
Hi Jayne,
People definitely need to get cracking if they want to start an online business. I have mentioned starting an online business to a couple of friends who are out of work. They gave me excuses of why they couldn’t go something like this. As you pointed out, in some cases, it doesn’t even require a lot of money to start an online business. So those who say they can’t do it, really don’t want to do it, and don’t want to change their circumstances. It’s funny how they have time to play games on Facebook, but don’t have any time to change their financial status.
I don’t care what the statistics are for having success with an online business. I will never quit my business, no matter how hard it is, or how long it takes. Quitting is simply not an option!
Glad to hear it Jamella. Quitting is the only guarantee for failure.
I believe the excuse makers don’t want ‘it’ badly enough.
Thanks for your great comment as always.
Jayne
Great post Jayne,
Sometimes you just gotta let it out with some real passion and inspiration for others. You made some good points here. I think it just takes what it takes for people to get serious about their life and their goals. The best we can do is to lead by example. Clearly, you’re a good example.
It’s a process too, we all have our own strengths and weaknesses and always something more to learn and improve on. It’s more about the journey than the destination. Still, the ONLY thing that matters once we have a goal in mind is DAILY ACTION… The type of action that will bring RESULTS.
~ Ragnar
Thanks Ragnar for your encouraging comment. We do have to lead by example… but still many people who could follow… don’t.
Thats what drives me nut bar.
We do have our own strengths and weaknesses but getting started with strengthen the weaknesses. There is no other way around it.
I of course do agree with daily action.
Thanks so much for leaving a great comment.
Jayne
Hey Jayne
Excellent Post!
I remember when I first starting out my online business, it was a struggle, I listen to a lot of training, listen to my mentor and implement on what I’ve been learn !
You’re right success doesn’t come over night, but it will come.
Hi Easther, I have seen you grow in leaps and bounds. Certainly you are a fine example at getting going… as well as consistency.
Lovely to see you
Jayne
I had a huge issue last year where it took me months to start my new blog and you hit the nail on the head when you said “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going…”
That was my whole reason for not starting sooner; I somehow wanted things to be just right – not accounting for the natural learning curve. tsk, tsk, tsk and shame on me.
It’s all good. I’m up and running well now and happy 🙂
I wish I had your coach at the time to slap me upside the head and tell me to go NOW! 🙂
~Kesha
Hello lovely Kesha. Often we want things to be perfect… but perfect never arrives. We have to jump in and make things perfect… otherwise we wait for ever.
Lovely to see you
Jayne
Not getting to it is basically self sabotage. You’re knocking yourself down before you even get started.
Lea, you said it perfectly. You are indeed knocking yourself down before you get going.
Lovely to meet you. Thanks so much for your comment.
Jayne
I am at war, at least within my mind. Every day is a battle to get up and get “crackin.” At this point in my life, the last thing I want to do is sleep. I feel like I have already slept too much of my life away. Sometimes, I feel strong and sometimes, I feel weak.
I might be different, but I feel like life is too short. Time goes by fast and I want to use all the time I have.
We have beautiful dreams, but what good does dreaming do us? We can sleep our life away or we can put ten toes down and turn our dreams into reality.
I only have one life and not two, three, or even four. That means I only have one chance to turn my dreams into reality and I realize that. With that being said, I am going to fight and keep pushing forward until my last breath. There is a fire burning in my heart!
Thanks for the uplifting post. I loved reading it!
God bless,
William Veasley
Hi William, I agree, we do only live once… and we should make the best of it.
It’s not always easy … at all, but it’s about putting one foot in front of the other and keeping going.
On cavaet is … that we must ‘truck on’ purposefully… floundering doesn’t make good use of our time… so that’s always something to keep in mind.
I would suggest however, getting your sleep, so you feel fresh and not weak as you say. A good clear head will steer you in the right direction much better than a fuzzy one… and I know that’s a fact!
Jayne
For those want to start business online, should really read this one. I agree that when starting a business you should ready yourself on all the possibilities to happen. And starting a business is taking risks. 🙂
